Information Session about Aberystwyth University Successfully Held

    On the morning of Nov. 17th, Prof. Gavin Zhao, the Director of International Strategy in the Institute of Business and Law of Aberystwyth University and Megan Williams, Head for Accounting, Finance and Economics, Institute of Business and Law paid a visit to BITZH and held the information session as well as a guest lecture about British tax with the title of “When is a cake not a cake?” at HD203 in Hongyi building. 


    After a brief self-introduction, Megan Williams, the thematic group leader, Accounting, Finance and Economics Senior Lecturer, gave a lecture about British tax. During the lecture, she introduced the British tax including indirect tax, current tax on expenditure, UK’s primary expenditure tax, and so on. Meanwhile, she mentioned that their programs are accredited by Association of Business Schools, ACCA, ACA, CIM, etc.


    After the lecture, Prof. Gavin Zhao, the Director of International Strategy, Institute of Business and Law Commercial Law, started the information session about Aberystwyth University.


    During the information session, Prof. Gavin Zhao shared the video about AU’s campus view and students’ life there. And then gave an introduction about Aberystwyth University, focusing on the subjects, the application process, the requirementsof admission, the campus environment and so on.


    Prof. Gavin Zhao mentioned that AberystwythUniversity is located near the western coast of golden sea in Wales, which only takes 15 minutes to walk from school to the beach.The school hasexpress trainto Birmingham international airport in 2.5 hours.And he also mentioned about the rankings and advantages. It is the Top 5 in the UK and Best in Wales for student satisfaction, NSS 2017, and a top 40 UK University according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016-17, ranked 3rd in Wales in the Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide 2016. In addition, a range of options are offered to their students within the academic department to develop skills and abilities further. Workshops, presentations, lectures and employer-related activities are offered by their departments.

    After that, Prof. Gavin Zhao introduced the application procedures of graduate programs that were generally concerned by students. He mentioned thatAberystwyth University offers the wide-range of courses for the undergraduate and graduate students, with the leading research and has a good reputation in information studies, agriculture, computer science, accounting and finance as well as geography and earth sciences. Among them,School of business performances outstandingly. He then introduced the requirements for admission, including majors, study fees, language grades and so on.


    At the end, the students asked questions such as how to apply for a specific major, whether they could apply in cross-discipline, and so on. Prof. Gavin Zhao answered them with patience. The interviews were also conducted on scene, and the interviewees who have passed were granted with the conditional offer.The information session were brought to a successful close.
